Admissions to Schools for entry in September 2011
HEMS policy and procedure [version 4 May 7 2010]
Pre registration
Any member of HEMS or non-member who wishes to have their child’s attendance at synagogue recorded for the purposes of a Certificate of Religious Practice (CRP) must notify the HEMS office in writing by 2pm on the Thursday before the Shabbat from which the parent requires attendance to be recorded. Registration is only required to be made once.
The notification should state the parent’s name, the child’s name and the child’s date of birth. In the case of non members the notification should also state the parent’s postal address, email address and a contact telephone number.
Synagogue attendance at Shabbat Morning Services [including children’s services].
A register containing the names of all registered children will be maintained by HEMs.
Alan Goldner will be responsible for the register and will ensure that attendances are properly recorded. On a Shabbat morning the child and parent should make themselves known to Alan Goldner on arrival at HEMS. If Alan is not available, then Edwin Lucas will deputise. The child and parent should arrive at HEMS no later than 10.30am and are expected to stay for the duration of the service/children’s service.
Attendance at HEMS will not be recorded when HEMS are notified or otherwise become aware that attendance has already been recorded at another synagogue unless written verification from that synagogue is obtained by the parent.
Signing of the CPR section relating to attendance The CPR will only be signed if the attendance recorded by the Parent can be verified against information captured on the register.
Signing of the CPR section relating to Voluntary and unpaid Jewish Communal, charitable or welfare activity undertaken within the last two years.
When applicable, a parent can record their voluntary activity and/or their child’s voluntary activity on the CRP. This section of the CRP will be signed by HEMS if the activity can be verified by HEMS. For the avoidance of doubt, regular fulfilment of allocated synagogue rota duties constitutes eligible communal activity for this purpose. Decisions as to whether other activities are eligible will be at the discretion of Alan Golder.
How to get your CPR Signed
When a parent is ready to submit a CPR for signing, the completed CPR should be sent to the HEMS office [address below]. It is the parents’ sole responsibility to ensure that the form is signed and delivered to the applicable school prior to the school’s deadline. It is recommended that this is done as soon as the required amount of points has been obtained.
