At HEMS, we have a vision of individual learning as a lifelong activity and early childhood experiences and family learning are the foundation of this. We develop a love, knowledge and understanding of Judaism, foster habits of learning and strengthen competencies in synagogue skills. A large number of young people at HEMS attend Jewish schools and we involve them in community activities such as regular youth services in shul, special youth led services and events based around the Jewish festivals.
Under the leadership of a highly experienced head teacher, our Cheder meets every Sunday morning for children in school years 1 – 4, where Hebrew reading skills are taught along side aspects of Jewish practice and knowledge. Parents support the learning by attending some of these sessions, alongside their children. Children in school years 5 – 6 attend Cheder at Edgware Masorti.
At the secondary level, Years 7-10, HEMS children are able to participate in the Masorti Secondary programmes at GESHER which leads to GCSE's in Jewish Studies and Ivrit (where appropriate). These students have access to the highest standards of teaching and also to the informal education input offered by Noam, Masorti's youth movement.
Subsequently, Masorti led youth training programmes enable our young people to learn to lead groups of children in services and on summer camps. In the sixth form, Masorti "SOX" organises social events and programmes. |
